Tribal youth Saghaley Lewis, 11, won first place in the 9 to 12 years of age division in a poetry contest held by the Willamette Heritage Center at Mission Mill in Salem.

Lewis' poem was titled "The Playground":

"This was a playground that looked quite cool,

But I was such a fool.

In the winter, I could taste the cold, wet air;

In the summer, we could pick the flowers and wear them in our hair.

It used to have a very long slide,

You would hear the children's laughter as they went for a ride.

It was amazing, it was cool.

Now it is middle school."

Saghaley is the son of Tribal member David Lewis, the Tribe's Cultural Resources Department manager, and his wife, Donna.
