Yesteryears -- May 1, 2012

2007 - A group of Tribal members and Tribal Council members took a two-mile hike from Cascadia State Park to Cascadia Cave to bless the area and share ideas on how to preserve the 8,000-year-old petroglyphs. These specific petroglyphs are believed to have been carved in rock by Kalapuya Indians.

2002 - Tribal Chairwoman Cheryle A. Kennedy and Tribal Council members June Sell-Sherer and Val Grout reviewed some 50,000 historic documents shared with the Tribe through the Coquille Tribe and University of Oregon. The materials were copies of important, Tribal-related information from Tribes all over the Northwest, including maps, treaties and pictures.

1997 - Tribal Council nominations were set for Sunday, May 4, at the Community Center. All nominating persons and nominees must be at least 18 years old and be an enrolled member of the Tribe. All nominees had to be present at the meeting to verbally accept or decline the nomination.

1992 - Publications does not have a copy of the May issue in 1992.

1987 - Grand Ronde Tribal Council Chairman Mark Mercier and Education Specialist Dean Azule attended a luncheon meeting with Oregon Gov. Neil Goldschmidt at the State Capitol Building. The meeting was arranged by the Commission on Indian Services and provided Indian leaders the opportunity to meet the new governor and discuss Indian and state-related issues.
