Tribal Government & News

Letters to the Editor

05.15.2015 Dean Rhodes Letters

Dear Smoke Signals:

I am a graduate student in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. I am doing my field research on membership and belonging in Native American Tribes as part of my master’s degree.

I will be attending cultural events, meetings and conducting interviews with Tribal members throughout the next two months. I would like to know what it means for individuals to be members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, how they understand membership and Tribal belonging, and the significance of family and Tribal community.

Tribal members, Tribal descendants and family members are welcome to contact me if they wish to share their story and any thoughts they might have on the above-mentioned questions at julia_samo@hotmail.com or 605-389-1137.

My project is not intended to reveal confidential information or identities and no information will be published or shared without the consent of individuals involved.

Dear Smoke Signals:

We would like to thank everyone who helped to celebrate our mother’s 100th birthday. She was surprised and happy to see all of the familiar faces.

A special thank you to Carrie, Shirley and staff at the lodges for all of their extra work, and a thank you to the Elders Committee for allowing us to use the Elders Activity Center building.

We appreciate all of the hard work to make our mother’s birthday special.

The family of Opal Davidson
