Suspicious device identified

After further investigation by the Grand Ronde Police Department, it has been determined that the suspicious item left on the deck of the Tribal Mailroom building was a hobo meter used to gauge water temperature.

The device was accidentally left at the Mailroom building instead of Natural Resources by someone who found it on the Reservation.

However, the Tribe followed its Emergency Management Plan to the letter to ensure the safety of the community and its employees. Members of the Salem Police Department complimented the Tribe and its Police Department for taking quick and decisive action. The Salem Police Department made the decision to neutralize the device because it was unfamiliar to them as well.
