Tribe monitoring flood conditions in West Valley

12.08.2015 Dean Rhodes Public Safety

The Grand Ronde Tribe’s Incident Management Team continues to monitor the potential for flooding in the West Valley area. Current weather predictions indicate heavy rainfall overnight on Tuesday, Dec. 8, and in the early morning of Wednesday, Dec. 9. Area residents are urged to not travel if it is not necessary.

The South Yamhill River is projected to crest at about 10 a.m. Wednesday at a level that is about a foot lower than the river reached on Monday, Dec. 7. However, the river may still overflow Highway 18 east of Spirit Mountain Casino.

During times of heavy rain and high stream flow, all rivers and streams are dangerous. Please stay away from banks and edges of rivers and streams, and warn your children about these natural dangers.

Highway 22 (Hebo Road) continues to be closed west of Grand Ronde at milepost 12 because of a sinkhole.

Tribal employees will be notified by 6 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, about that day’s work schedule. Tribal employees are encouraged to check out the Tribe’s Facebook page or the Tribal website at www.grandronde.org for more information on Wednesday morning.

Tribal members are encouraged to make sure they have sufficient medications on hand in case of a sudden closure of the Grand Ronde Health & Wellness Center. Call 503-879-2342 if you are running low on required medications.

Further updates will be provided as conditions warrant.
