Letters to the Editor -- April 15, 2017

Dear Smoke Signals:

I am writing to express my gratitude to the Tribe for allowing me to serve on the Enrollment Board for the last three years. Although difficult and heartbreaking at times, it was an honor to serve the membership in this capacity.

However, it was disrespectful and shameful for Tribal Council to publicly disregard the board’s recommendation to re-appoint me to this position and to publicly announce the newly appointed board members without any discussion or justification.

I am an Elder who has been involved with many committees, programs and volunteer work for years in our community. This is not the way to treat people. For you to not even reach out to me and let me know your decision prior to it going public is very flabbergasting.

I am in shock that this is how you would treat any member. A little common courtesy and respect would have gone a long way. I am embarrassed that our leadership would move forward in this decision with such disregard to human decency.
