Gladys was born on July 11, 1944, in McMinnville, Oregon. She graduated from Dallas High School before completing nursing school and spent her 35-year career practicing nursing in an obstetrics and gynecological clinic in Grants Pass.

In 2005, she moved to Grand Ronde with her husband, Rusty, and became an active member of her Tribal community. She was involved in both the Health and Elder committees for the Tribe.

She is survived by her brothers, Ernest, Junior and Jip Petite and their wives; daughter, Tauni McCammon; son, Alan Hobbs; granddaughter, Hauli; grandson, Geoff; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was a woman on the go and engaged in her community. Family expects that Gladys is now serving on the welcoming committee. Her daughter, Tauni, imagines she requires no good  deed for entry, denies no one and only asks, "What took you so long?" when welcoming her friends into their next adventure.

Family has offered two charities close to Gladys' heart in the event donations would like to be made in her honor: The Ronald McDonald House and Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 17, at the Tribal gym.

Edward Earl “Eddie” Larsen

Dec. 4, 1942 – July 16, 2024

Edward Earl “Eddie” Larsen of Grand Ronde, Oregon, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, following complications with Parkinson’s disease.

He was 81 years old and passed on surrounded by family and friends.

Eddie was born on Dec. 4, 1942, to Verna Riggs Larsen and Edward Larsen Sr. He was the eldest of six children and loved his growing-up years in Grand Ronde.

Eddie was a competitive and athletic student. He enjoyed playing basketball during his time at Willamina High School before he graduated in 1960.

When he was 8 or 9 years old, he would ride along with his dad in the log truck. As he grew and matured, his job of helper grew as well. After his dad passed away in 1964, Eddie started driving trucks himself for the next 21 years.

On Oct. 23, 1976, Eddie married Shirley. Together, they built a home next door to his family’s home and were married for 35 years before she passed away in 2011. They bought Spirit Mountain Store on the corner of Hebo and Grand Ronde roads. She ran the store, and he drove log trucks and assisted with the business side of the store until he was elected to Tribal Council.

Eddie was proud of his Indian heritage and loved the Grand Ronde community. He was a proud member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and was on the original roll.

He served on Tribal Council from 1992-2004, serving as Tribal Council secretary from 1994-95, as the vice chairman in 1996 and then intermittently until 2000.

He was a key figure in securing support for the casino and served on the Spirit Mountain Casino Board of Directors as the Tribe was establishing the building and opening of the casino. He was a great ambassador for the Tribe.

Eddie had many unique attributes that will be remembered fondly and greatly missed. He had a gift of storytelling and remembered all of the details of stories from the past. He had a way with words, a great sense of humor and would hilariously retell events that had happened decades ago.

He didn’t know a stranger and gave everyone a nickname. He had the best “Tarzan” call and loved to shout it out of his log truck when driving by his cousin’s home. He had his own unique sense of fashion and style including cowboy hats, boots and belts to coordinate with his outfits, and always looked sharp.

Eddie is survived by his sisters, Susie Gilliam and Carol Larsen; cousin, Candy Robertson, who has been like a sister to the family; and his girlfriend, Jeanne Schmale; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents, Edward and Verna Larsen; sister, Jeanne Larsen; brothers, Mike Larsen and Kenny Larsen; brother-in-law, Ray Gilliam; and cousin, Stevie Bobb. He considered both Ray and Stevie to be brothers.

Funeral services will be held for Eddie starting at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 at the Tribal gym in Grand Ronde, followed by interment at Grand Ronde Tribal Cemetery. A meal at the Tribe’s Elders Activity Center will follow.
