Tribal flag to be raised at Willamina schools on Nov. 16
The Grand Ronde Tribal flag will be raised at Willamina High School at noon Monday, Nov. 16.
There will be a short celebration held for kindergarten through fifth-grade students and another for sixth- through 12th-grade students. During the celebration, Tribal member Angela Fasana, who suggested the idea to the Willamina School District earlier this year, will give a short presentation on what the flag means to the Grand Ronde Tribe and its importance.
The Tribe’s Culture Department and Canoe Family will attend to drum, sing and dance as well.
About one-third of the students in the Willamina School District identify as Native American, and most of them are Grand Ronde Tribal members.
